If your teeth sustain minor damage, such as a cavity, chipping or fracturing, our dentist may recommend a dental filling to repair and restore them. Dental fillings work by literally “filling in” the damaged area, restoring your tooth to its original structure and function so that you can once again enjoy good oral health.
Dental fillings typically require only one appointment to place. Dr. Macedo will begin by removing the decayed or damaged portions of the tooth and cleaning it to remove all traces of decay and prepare the tooth to receive the filling. The filling material is then placed and shaped to match the natural contours of the tooth and provide support for your tooth structure. Our dentist then hardens and polishes the filling to provide you with a lasting restoration.
There are two main types of fillings available — silver (amalgam) fillings and composite (tooth-colored) fillings. During your visit to our office, we will work with you to determine which type of filling will be most beneficial for your needs.
